Remembering Mothers at Gedling Crematorium

Gedling Crematorium will be remembering mothers next month as local families are invited to pay tribute to their maternal loved ones.

On Saturday, 18 March – the day before Mother’s Day - local people are being invited to visit the crematorium’s chapel between 10am and 12noon.

Reflective music will be playing and visitors will be able to light a candle in memory of those they have lost, as well as have a moment of quiet contemplation.

Following the installation of a memorial postbox in December last year, visitors will also be able to bring their Mother’s Day cards with them and put them inside the postbox. Alternatively, letter paper and envelopes will be available inside the chapel to anyone who wishes to do so after their moment of reflection.

Gedling Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Giulia McDonough, Site Manager at Gedling Crematorium, said: “Mother’s Day can be a particularly poignant time for those who have lost their mum or mother-figure, or for mothers who have been bereaved of a child.

“We are inviting local families to visit us during this period to have a moment of reflection and contemplation within our chapel and beautiful grounds.

“We saw just how much comfort families got at Christmas from posting a letter to their loved one through our memorial postbox and we hope that doing so on Mother’s Day will continue to support them through their bereavement at this special time of the year.“
